Bratislava

LET’S VISIT THE CAPITAL OF SLOVAKIA

During our latest holiday, I and my friend decided not to spend holiday at home and we took a trip to Bratislava. I had never been to Bratislava before. I was very satisfied with the city and I would like to show you why Bratislava is so special.

Bratislava, as i said before, is the capital of Slovakia with population approximately 425 000. If we want to compare Bratislava with other metropolitan city, it is very small. However for our conditions, it is enough. Bratislava’s been expanding and becoming more diverse city and that‘s why I like it. Now you can see many cultures and different kinds of people in the streets. Yes, there are still some racial problems, but I think it’s getting better. Bratislava is very modern and cosmopolitan city and it has been one of the most visited places in the Middle Europe.

Bratislava had a rich, colorful history. Thanks to the strategic geographical location, it was an important European hub due its proximity to the rest of Europe, which were possible by Danube River. The city was known by many names and depends on who you ask because the name of the city could be completely different. The names were Pozsony (Hungarian) , Prešporok (Slovak), Istropolis (Greek), Pressburg (German).

Besides the colorful history, Bratislava has significant sights and monuments to visit. I’ve visited some of them.

1. Bratislavský hrad (Bratislava Castle)

Because of its size and location, the castle has been a dominant feature of the city. For me, I like it the most even though it was windy out there. You have to take a small walk, during the walk you find many picture-worthy spots. At the Bratislava Castle, there is a park, a very nice garden and many restaurants.

2. Staré Mesto (Old Town)

Is the historic and vibrant centre and one of the boroughs of Bratislava. Old town is known for many churces cultural institutions and of course restaurants and pubs. It was really amazing to be there.

I highly recommend a visit.

3. Grassalkovičov palác (Grassalkovich Palace)

Is known as Slovakia’s white house and it is definetly worth visiting. This palace is the official seat of the president of Slovakia.

4. Most SNP (Bridge SNP)

The Bridge of the Slovak National Uprising built in 1967-1972 was given the label of the most significant building of the city. On top of the 80 metres tall pylon, there is a restaurant accessible by a lift in one shoulder or by a staircase in the other. We didn’t have the opportunity to go up there. Next time, we’ll go.

There’s so more to visit, but we didn’t have much time. If you ever come to Slovakia, you must visit Bratislava.
