ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A DANCER AND THE AUDIENCE

It is such a beautiful feeling to dance for an audience. Actually it is not only about dancing according learned choreography. It is a lot more than that. It is about keeping contact between the dancer and the audience during dancing, it is about connection between them. The facial expression is also very important. We can´t be looking down to the ground, we have to be watching the audience. We can´t be frowning. That would be very unwelcome from us to spread such negative energy and also very unpleasant for them to watch the performance like that. That is why we have to keep smiling although we don´t have the best day by ourselves. We want to share the positive vibes not the negative ones. And even if we are about to be hit by an exhaustion, we are not supposed to show the fatigue under no circumstances. But still, when we start smiling, a bad day suddenly turns into a good day and we pretend that we are not weak as long as we do not believe in ourselves, that we have a lot of energy to continue.

It is such a magic, isn´t it?

But, to be honest with you, it´s only about the dancer attitude towards situations and about the strong will of that person.

So as you see, we have to be like actors sometimes. Despite of that or even if we are not sure about the choreography or we may have forgotten the steps and we make a mistake, we have to act like everything is totally under control and whether someone has noticed the mistake or not , we have to take it easy and keep dancing like nothing has happened. We have to always look confident and persuade the audience about our talent, even if we are scared, uncertain or have a lack of the self-confidence.

But as soon as we enter a stage, music turns on and we see those people waiting for the performance, at that very moment, that fear is mostly changed into excitement.

Yet, there is also another thing. In my opinion, a very important thing:

To IMPRESS as a dancer.

I know, this is a very debatable thing and everyone can imagine something completely different behind this term, but for me the answer is more than obvious. As I´ve already mentioned, the choreography can be learned by everyone somehow, mastering up to some level, but it is not enough to impress just by dancing according learned choreography, without any expressed emotions, without facial expression, eye contact and so on. I think that to make an impression on the people watching can only be performed by a real dancer who is capable to express himself by his movements. It isn´t as easy as it seems to be. That´s the reason why it is more appreciable and also emotional when the dancer can open his heart and show his feelings to the viewer while dancing.

And do you know what the most beautiful feeling is?

THE RESPONSE from those people the dancer opens his heart for. There is the applause from all of them you dance for. We often dance for children in kindergartens or for children at schools. We dance even for the people in retirement homes or for those in homes for people with disabilities to make them at least a bit more happy. For us, it´s such a big pleasure for dancers, to make smiles on their faces, distract them at least for a while from their health problems or just to make them feel that they are not as lonely as they think they are.

And this is what dance is really about. Not just about enjoying movements by and for yourself, but also about letting others enjoy the movements with you and giving them a joy by what makes you happy. Let them feel, what you feel.
