“The most famous and delicious meals in our region”
In this article, I really want to share with you some meals that are popular in Slovakia particularly Gemer. The cuisine of Gemer is very specific. It is a mix of everything. Mostly it consists of sheep cheese, bacon, onion, cabbage and meat (mainly pork). I hope you’ll learn something new and will find it interesting. These are must-eat foods in Gemer. :)
“Gemerské guľky”
Ingredients: 3 kg potatoes
1 kg flour
0,5 kg beef meat
garlic
black pepper
sweet red pepper
vinegar
onion
oil
“Gemerské guľky” are made in the shape of ball. The preparation and cooking is very difficult. The whole process takes 4 hours. It is served with soup which is called “Kyseľ”. “Kyseľ” is often made from milk. It is mostly cooked for special occasion. My mother make it four times a year. My whole family meets and eat it together. I definitely recommend this meal. It is so delicious.
The origin: Sirk (village in Gemer)
Interesting fact: There are also competitions in making the best and the most delicious “Gemerské guľky”.
